Being a drawer involves receiving both praise and criticism. I've chosen some of the most excellent instances of both to share with you here. Sorted by time:

But I'll give you props: the forms are readable, the body on the left has clear gesture, and passable anatomy if done from imagination and overall the works are atmospheric and tell a story, which is better than anime girls in the void people here draw. Had you listened to all the people who gave you advice that you should change your approach to learning - you'd probably be borderline pro, with your dedication.

• I know you're impervious to crit, and that's good, keep it like that. I just want to point out that this particular figure drawing sheet that you did, shows something different. Maybe others won't see it. But I see it. Specially when you are doing a series, there's a moment when it happens, in this one there are some great clean and confident figure lines. The 7 and 8 panels in the left page, are showing that difference, panel 8 in particular, is shockingly "smooth" in the line path. Line confidence is at max level there. It's happening man. After all the hard foundation you're doing, architecture, perspective, clothing, etc, etc, the moment you make the "click", it will all pay off. But you know that already. About the photography thing, I went that rabbit hole once, the search tags are "flat lay photography lighting setup", this one is a very simple and quick tutorial: Basically you want a diffused giant ambient light, and to take the picture from a distance so your shadow don't mess with the overall light you created. A white clean wall can work to bounce off sunlight or another direct big light source on the paper.

• Well, I wish you the best of luck with your journey. I honestly think the missing link for you to unlock your art powers is the ability to just retain information you studied and actually actively study instead of just copying. Your major problem in my eyes is that you're satisfied with your studies looking nothing like the original source material. Whilst it's true you're not at the level yet to achieve the same quality as the source material, the root issue is that you don't figure out the why and fix it. If you can get past that wall in your learnings, you'd be unstoppable. But until then, you'll just be making the more or less the same mistakes. You'll be very smart in art and knowledgeable in the technical shit but the actual execution will stagnate is my prediction if you keep this up

• You're a good lad and I understand wanting to disregard the crabs, however you should really really look deep within yourself and ask why you haven't seen improvement in the last few years. You should study iterative drawing. Memory recall is core in learning skills. Sycra goes into it but if you want someone else less stylized there's other videos that go in depth on the methodology in more traditional ways. Here's a good example I personally use but there's others that don't use it to draw anime if you do some deep dives:

• He knows what he must do but he is stubborn. It's like if you tell him something he definitely won't do it. It feels more like watching someone who has a magical theory of the world. Pawell, in a cargo cult fashion, appears to believe that the exercises are rituals, and so long as the form was followed, the content is secondary, and the improvement will magically materialize if he keeps on "doing the exercises". The notes that he leaves on his drawings are less confusing once you see things in this manner. "Don't copy, analyze" and other such pieces of advice that he writes down and clearly repeatedly ignores make no sense until you realize that these notes are just as performative as the drawing ritual. Like someone repeating a mantra (or a student repeating a definition they don't understand), the point is to give the appearance of having done the work.
• I personally think he actually has some kind of disability. The whole deal with his mother dying and he not giving a fuck was kind of worrying, in a lolcow kind of way. He's also a pedophile by the way probably had a really bad childhood with all kinds of abuse This guy really isn't ok

• How do I not become Pawel? get out of your comfort zone, do longer studies (in between shorter ones), have a critical eye (but not too much so), seek out advice, try to apply it to your work, see how well you did, be consistent and frequent, seek out/look back over general guides and tips for whatever fundamental(s) you're working on. Good post, you touched on a lot of mistakes pawell does: He stays in his comfort zone. He doesnt spend more than a few dozen minutes on a drawing. he doesn't seem to recognize any of his mistakes. he NEVER seeks out advice, only gives advice. But I would like to add to that - he never takes breaks to reflect, you can't draw meaningfully when you don't think. This is his main philosophy, to never think, just autopilot drawing and its why he sucks.
• I'm still /beg/ so take what I say with a grain of salt but I think the biggest issue you're dealing with is the inability to accurately copy your references. You might have heard the adage of making more quick drawings is better for learning than making one drawing that takes forever, but in your case I'd suggest doing the opposite. You've bumped out an impressive number of drawings throughout the year but recently have "stagnated" into a loop of quick sketches that don't show much progress from your previous year. I say this without any hate. I'd suggest really taking your time to observe a single drawing you want to copy and very, very, very slowly and articulately block in the shapes and forms. Use a low opacity layer and place reference over the early stages of the drawing to doublecheck and self critique the accuracy of your study. Once you're confident in your accuracy skill you can try to move on to iterative drawing, remove the reference and try to replicate the same image from imagination to test what information you've learned. Memory recall is an invaluable method of learning and can really help to see if you're retaining information. If the drawing is off try using reference again, block in the shapes, self critique, and look for specific points that were inaccurate, until you can confidently draw a simple piece from memory. Another thing is your line control, I'm not sure what tablet you're using but I suggest increasing the application's smoothing or placing a piece of paper for friction, your lines, while definitely better than when you started, is still severely holding you back.

• It's because he rushes through things, not properly implementing what the books say. Then, he goes on to give everyone advice despite not understanding 95% of what he's studying. He's also attention seeking by using such a weird format for his images, putting that massive pawell + discord stuff at the bottom right and all the text. It further rubs people the wrong way. You should see what he did with Bargue. Atelier students spend 4-6 hours on one plate, but he bum rushed it and labelled it a 3/10 on his site. I remember "finishing Loomis" in 2 weeks, when I first started drawing. That won't stop people from being hard on him though

• His goal is to acquire a singular very specific technical skill, which makes up only small portion of artist's skill set and not even top artists bother to fully master it. It's autism, plain and simple. Pawell just wants to do studies and he has no idea what he wants to draw. I don't care, what he does next. But other begs should be warned to not end up like him. Direct your time and effort into actually making art you dreamt of drawing. Use references if you can't draw purely from imagination. Do not get trapped in eternal student mind set. Do not wait for when you are "allowed" to draw. Simple as.
• You have terminal case of unrealistic goals. You said you want to be able to draw figures without need for a reference aka from imagination. However, even pro mangakas and comic artists with decades of experience and tens of thousands of figures drawn still have to use references from time to time. All pro artists use photo references, 3d models, some even just photograph themselves as a reference. You are going to spend years grinding your ungodly ugly figures and still won't achieve your goal. You already studied like 20 art books, just move on to drawing finished work you actually want to draw. I know you won't, btw. The only reason I am writing this is to maybe save someone else reading this from falling down your path. You will keep drawing your surreal deformed humans and won't get closer to your unachievable goal. I just hope someone else will learn from your mistake.

• There's literally nothing wrong with any of them. I don't know much about this pawell guy but from the looks of it he's an extremely literal minded grindfag that is completely incapable of seeing the forest for the trees. He's not understanding the concepts and the abstract meaning because he is stuck hard in concrete thinking. I'm no great artist but I learned plenty from Loomis, Vilppu, Bridgman, Hogarth, and etc. just by skimming through and gleaning the concepts that they were trying to teach. Like Loomis, it was pretty easy to get that shaved ball + wedge = head and that I could modify the 3D form to build different shaped heads and stick whatever kind of facial features I wanted onto them constructed out of different 3D volumes. Or constructing the body in proportion in 3D, all I had to do was place rectangles in perspective, divide them into 8 sections, and draw the body parts in the correct places on the grid, and then after some practice and a lot of doodling mannequins I learned to eyeball the proportions. I never, EVER copied, I always created drawings of my own BASED OFF OF the CONCEPT that was being taught at the time. Construction is the most important fundamental, sorry not sorry desu fampai. Draw your boxes and cylinders and blobs and wireframes and get a sense of perspective ingrained into you on a subconscious level.

All proportions are fucked, because you don't have visual library and all features are symbol drawn, because you don't really study them. For last months you haven't posted a single drawing that looks remotely human. Maybe you should follow on your own advice and go back to KTD and learn to study and draw what you see.

Draw full body figures, not just asses. And you struggle with proportions, the guy on the bottom left looks like a sausage with tiny ass. Draw much simpler, but proportional figures, instead of wasting time on shading nonsensical lumps. And if you are drawing from imagination and not using reference, draw at the very least 100+ full body figures from reference to burn proportions and basic anatomy into your memory.

Look at the middle drawing. very accurate copy. he was probably fascinated by the dominant masculine features of the man and imagined running his hands through them as he hatched the lines along the forms. This is the story I get from the lines. On the drawing of the left you can see that he could not hide his deep contempt. He was repulsed by the feminine features, the dirty look on the face shows his disdain. I think he saw the man as a cockroach and wanted to kill him.. On the drawing of the right you can see he did not care at all, he just gave up. The warped face of the bitch shows his view of the female look being absurd and ridiculous, I think he could not wait to finish it. He find absolutely nothing attractive about the female form.
